Penny Austermiller

President & CEO of Austermiller Roofing, Inc

Years with Austermiller: Since 2001

Experience: Over the last 22 years, Penny successfully reorganized Austermiller from a sole proprietorship into a corporation, creating one of Middle Tennessee’s premier roofing contractors. She is now the President & CEO of Austermiller Roofing, making Austermiller a woman-owned entity, which is uncommon in the roofing industry. Penny is also the owner and manager of multiple other construction and property management companies.

Fun Facts: Penny earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Middle Tennessee State University, grew up in Dickson, TN, and currently lives in Brentwood, TN. Penny also has two daughters who attend FRA.

M.J. Garrett

Sales & Marketing Director

Years with Austermiller: Since 2011

Experience: With over 12 years in the roofing industry, M.J. has experience in residential, commercial, and multi-family roofing sales management. Currently the Sales and Marketing Director M.J. leads, manages, and mentors sales teams at each niche of Austermiller. He also develops and implements processes to seamlessly integrate sales and operations internally. In addition to his sales and operational duties, M.J. elevates the marketing initiatives by sharing his industry expertise!

Fun Facts: M.J. is a native Nashvillian, was a 3-year starter for the Vanderbilt football team, and a member of the All-SEC Academic Team. Additionally, you may recognize him from appearances on MTV’s “The Real World” & MTV’s “The Challenge”. M.J. also has a special family connection at Austermiller – his brother, Austin serves as the South Territory Production Manager within the company. He’s a dedicated father to his two daughters and finds joy in running, traveling, and parenthood.

Tommy Boothe

Corporate Counsel and CFO

Years with Austermiller: Since 2013

Experience: Tommy Boothe has been a licensed attorney for 25 years and a licensed CPA for 30 years. With over a decade of experience at Austermiller, he is well-versed in corporate law and accounting. He also has an extensive background in I.T. and H.R., making him a valuable asset to the team.

Fun Facts: Originally from Virginia, Tommy has called Tennessee his home for 40+ years, as he currently resides in Lebanon, TN. Tommy is married to his wife Tammy, an elementary school teacher, and the father of two daughters, Grace and Olivia, who attend MTSU. Tommy also enjoys playing golf and tennis.

Blake Tinnell

North Territory Production Manager

Years with Austermiller: Since 2013

Experience: Blake’s roots in construction run deep, with family ties in the industry and summer trade experience growing up in Mount Juliet and Gladeville areas. He’s been a part of the roofing industry for 11 years and currently manages the North Territory at Austermiller.

Fun Facts: Blake is passionate about sports and competition and is the oldest of three kids, with two little sisters and two nieces and nephews. He graduated from Goodpasture Christian School and loves spending time at the lake and enjoying the great outdoors. Blake currently lives in Old Hickory, TN.

Austin Garrett

South Territory Production Manager

Years with Austermiller: Since February 2012

Experience: Austin started as an area supervisor, specializing in new construction roof installation and full roof replacement, such as tear-offs and leak repairs. While Austin is proficient in a full range of roofing projects, he honed his craft on shingle/metal roofing systems and TPO/EPDM low-slope roofing. Austin’s skills truly shine in flashing details, all things metal and high-end custom home roof installations. He also cherishes working with his older brother, M.J.

Fun Facts: Born and raised in Middle TN, Austin lives on a small farm in Lebanon, TN, with his wife and daughter. He attended Donelson Christian Academy, Pensacola Junior College, and College of Charleston. At the College of Charleston, Austin played baseball. He also played minor league baseball with the Washington Nationals. He is currently a member of the Glade Church in Gladeville, TN.

Brooke Brown

Chief Operations Officer

Years with Austermiller: Since March 2012

Experience: Brooke Brown has ample experience handling insurance claims and re-roofs, working as the production coordinator for purchasing, rescheduling, invoicing residential new construction, and managing the team. Brooke’s current role is Chief Operations Officer. Her responsibilities include managing internal operations over the office staff and the estimating department, accounts receivables and payables, and the fleet.

Fun Facts: Brooke grew up in Kingsport, TN, and currently resides in Mt. Juliet, where she has lived since 2011. She is married to Jarod Brown, Chief Construction Officer at Austermiller. They met while attending the University of Tennessee in 2009 and married in Nashville in 2015. They have two young boys.

Jarod Brown

Chief Construction Officer

Years with Austermiller: Since 2010

Experience: Jarod boasts 13 years of experience in the roofing industry. His roles have included material runner, project manager, production coordinator, and estimator.

In 2012, he co-founded the company Metal Formers Inc. to provide sheet metal materials to roofing companies, including Austermiller. One project Jarod is proud of is the fabrication of a 20-foot dome with a 10-foot steeple for St. Pishoy Church in Antioch, TN, in 2014. In 2023, Jarod won the “Best Boss” award in the Williamson County Community Awards.

Fun Facts: Jarod’s hometown is Mt. Juliet, TN. He attended Donelson Christian Academy and the University of Tennessee, where he earned his degree in Logistics and Information Management. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys. He also lives by the motto, “Outwork your self-doubt.”

Craig Sanford

Commercial Roofing Manager

Years with Austermiller: Since 2014

Experience: Craig has worked in the construction industry for 27 years. He graduated with a Business Management degree from Middle Tennessee State University.  First, he was an apprentice to a large custom home builder in Nashville for 4 years. Next, he worked for 10 years as a residential custom home builder and remodeler. Craig also has 5 years’ experience as a commercial site superintendent in Nashville and 9 years’ experience in commercial roofing.

Fun Facts: Craig’s hometown is Lebanon, TN. He has been married for over 20 years and has 3 boys. Craig loves the outdoors, enjoys traveling the country with his boys, and fishes with the Tennessee Bass Nation.
