What Are the Steps of a Roofing Installation Project?
Inspection
The first step of our roof installation process is to perform a thorough inspection of your roof so we can understand the scope and needs of your project.
Planning
During this phase, our designers and architects will design the plans for your new roof, and we will prepare any necessary materials. During this phase, we will work with you to select the style of roof you want as well as the roofing materials.
Installation
Once we’ve prepared everything, we will work with you to set a date for the installation. Typically, this is a two-day process.
Flashing
After the roof is installed, our team will place a protective sealant called “flashing” to protect the parts of your roof like the chimney, air vents, or any skylights.
Gutters
Gutters are an essential part of protecting your home from water damage. Gutters direct water and melting snow away from the edge of your roof and prevent erosion from around the foundation of your home.
Clean up
Once your roof has been installed, our team will clean up the area around your home, so you can enjoy the results of your project.
Re-inspection
Finally, we’ll re-inspect your roof to ensure the project has been completed to our highest standards.
Residential Roofing FAQs
Is a drip edge necessary on a roof?
A drip edge is a metal flashing that is installed along the edges of your roof to protect the inner facia of your roof from water. A drip edge is an essential component of a complete roof system.
What is the best underlayment for a shingle roof?
From our experience, the best underlayment for a shingle roof is self-adhesive synthetic underlayment. This is a sheet of protective material that adds an extra layer of protection as well as creates a flat surface for the shingles to be laid on.
How long does it take to install a roof?
We usually estimate that a new roof installation will take around two days to complete. Of course, larger projects with more specialized features or materials can take longer to complete.
When does a roof need to be replaced?
Typically, a well-built roof in Tennessee will last anywhere from 15-30 years. The exact lifespan of your roof will depend on the type of material used and the weather conditions it is exposed to.
Do I need to replace my whole roof if it leaks?
Even if your roof is leaking in a few places, that does not mean your entire roof will need to be replaced. If you notice leaks in your roof, give us a call so we can perform a thorough inspection and identify the exact spots that need to be repaired.
What will a new roof cost?
Replacing your roof can be expensive and it is a major investment. If you have to replace your roof due to storm damage like wind, hail, or a fallen tree, then insurance may help reduce the cost of replacing your roof. Roofing pricing can vary greatly depending on size of your roof, the materials used and if insurance will cover a replacement or repair. At Austermiller Roofing, we offer free estimates to make sure that you receive the most comprehensive and customized roofing quote. Feel free to reach out to us, to schedule your appointment.
How long should a roof last?
In Tennessee, most roofs last between 15-30 years. Depending on the weather conditions as well as the materials used, a roof may last longer before needing to be replaced. For instance, a roof that uses rubber shingles can last up to 50 years before needing to be replaced.
Why should I hire licensed roofing contractors?
In the roofing industry, there are groups of roofers that travel through areas chasing storm damage. However, many of these contractors lack professional licenses and certifications. We call them storm chasers, and often their repairs end up needing to be re-repaired.
When you hire licensed roofing contractors like us, you can rest assured that the repairs done on your home will be done right.
What is algae or fungus on a roof?
Algae and fungus are growths that can develop on your roof depending on the age and condition of your roof. Most of the time, algae and fungus only begin growing on a roof where there is lots of rain and sunlight.
Thankfully, fungus and algae are usually just cosmetic issues that discolor your roof. However, if left untreated, they can begin to grow into deeper levels of your roof and cause more serious damage.
